4 years ago when on the way to university, Joel felt prompted to pray for a stranger he had just met walking down the street. He prayed a simple prayer: that this stranger would give his life to Jesus one day.
4 years on, at a student weekend away, Joel noticed a familiar face as he led worship. The stranger from years prior, called Mickey, had found himself on the same weekend.
“I’d never really felt the presence of God until the weekend away.”
Mickey, despite not knowing Jesus, accepted an invitation to a weekend from a friend, where he crossed paths with another student who had prayed a simple yet bold prayer years before.
“I’d completely lost touch with my faith and I didn’t have a sense of community. Community was what I needed."
Whilst in worship, Mickey had an encounter with the Holy Spirit that will stay with him for the rest of his life. This experience led him to want to commit his life to Jesus!
“I finally felt like I was on the right path, like this is where I needed to be this entire time.”
Mickey found hope in Jesus and home in a local church as a result of an invitation, an answered prayer, and a community ready to welcome him in.
“I felt so included in community and I felt that God was saying this is what I’ve always wanted for you.”
Just 12 hours later, Mickey decided to take the jump and get baptised in the swimming pool surrounded by his friend who had invited him, a friend who had prayed for his salvation and a new community he was being welcomed into.
“I thought, I’ve got to just take the jump now and devote my life to this. This is real, and we needed a way of marking the occasion, so I got baptised.”
Just 1 month later, Mickey is plugged into a local church, is excited to learn more about God and is passionate about sharing his new-found faith with others!
