Isaiah 61 whispers gently to our grief and our loss, our lingering heartache and hopes deferred. It is honest about the devastation and destruction, and it is determined and resolute in announcing there will be rebuilding and restoring and renewing.
It is blazen in its stop at nothing commitment for justice and freedom. It is good news for the poor and it is healing for the broken. It boldly and sensitively promises comfort and more joy than we can comprehend.
We believe this passage speaks to so much that we have experienced over the last 12 months and also to a future we can walk towards with hope and confidence. Indeed we believe this passage will focus the church for decades to come.
Throughout Lent, we will be looking at a few words in this extraordinary passage of scripture. Words that Jesus declared as he stepped into the next part of his mission on earth and words that are for us as we join in with the plans and purposes of God.
We invite you to join us as we journey slowly and prayerfully through Isaiah 61 - line by line over forty days. Sign up below!
