Sundays, Baptisms & 10 students

There is nothing more encouraging than seeing friends baptised! After welcoming students into their church throughout Freshers, The Belfrey in York decided to host a baptism service. When they were planning their services, they couldn’t predict how many people would choose to get baptised! However, the student team gathered and prayed for 10 students to choose to get baptised.

6 days before the baptism service, 3 students had asked to get baptised. Believing that there were more students who had not yet expressed interest in getting baptised, they continued to pray.

Sunday arrived, and 9 people were preparing to get baptised! Throughout the day, services were held, stories were celebrated and people made a public declaration to follow Jesus. Despite this, the student team knew that there were still more students who needed to get baptised, so they prayed again.

Sure enough, 3 more people came forward for baptism, and their prayer of 10 students being baptised was answered!

Baptism is always a joyous celebration, but with students settled in churches and communities building, this is a great time to invite students to get baptised.

How can you begin discussions about baptism and help students to think through a life-changing decision this term?

Could you host a baptism service that they could invite friends to?
