At Fusion, we believe that each story shared has the power to ignite hope and inspire students that their role in the student mission narrative is significant. The story we are a part of is always bigger than we think it is, which is why it’s crucial that we celebrate stories of how God is working through local churches across the UK and beyond. Mads, a Student Worker in Lincoln, shares her experience…
Recently our students have felt a call and a fire to tell people about Jesus. We’ve been praying for a long time that they would want to tell their friends about Jesus but also have the courage to tell anyone about the hope of Jesus.
A few of our students then asked if we could have an evening where we all go out onto the streets and pray for people, offer Christmas bags of kindness and prayer walk the streets. We had 14 days of prayer leading up to this Friday evening and other members of the congregation stirred up to pray and prophesy without them even knowing the evening was happening.
“we’ve just got out of prison today..."
On Friday we had 35 young people turn up with the expectation of going out on the street to tell people about Jesus and share the light with others. We offered 5 different groups that they could go out in; treasure hunting, prayer walking, bags of kindness and offering to pray, talking to vulnerable adults on the street, and staying back at base to pray.
We were so encouraged that when the time came to choose what they wanted to do, all 35 went out in courage and faith to share the light of Jesus on the streets of Lincoln. They came back absolutely buzzing and with so many stories! Here are just a couple of them:
One group went out and as they were praying together a group of men asked “are you praying?” and in response, the group said “yes”. The men responded, “we’ve just got out of prison today and would love you to pray a prayer of blessing over us”. They began praying for the men and then the men joined in praying and asking God for forgiveness and for Him to help them be faithful.
Another group gave out 30 bags of kindness to anyone walking the streets of Lincoln, which included invitations to Alpha. So many conversations were had about church and faith, and people were genuinely interested about big life questions. This group gave a bag out to a boy called *James, who then shared that he had been stranded in Lincoln and standing around for the last 2 hours not knowing what to do. He had missed his bus, his card was declined and his phone had died. We were able to show the love of Jesus in a practical way by allowing him to use a phone to call his mum to pick him up, we told him about Jesus and said that we would be praying for him.
"Her friends screamed in shock and disbelief as to how anyone would know that their friend felt broken..."
Another group had a conversation with a nurse after feeling led to the area where they met her. She explained how she struggles to believe in a God with what she sees at work and began asking question after question about faith. When she was offered prayer, she then shared why she didn’t think prayer worked or would help but after a listening ear and more of a conversation, she decided she did want prayer and was then prayed for!
One of the students had a picture of a girl in a pink dress and felt that she felt broken, but when the group returned, the same student felt discouraged that they hadn’t found the girl yet. When the other treasure hunting group returned they shared how they had felt led towards the train tracks and had seen the girl in the pink dress. They proceeded to go up to her and told her they were looking for her and asked whether she did indeed feel broken and would like prayer. At this, her friends screamed in shock and disbelief as to how anyone would know that their friend felt broken. The group was then able to pray for this girl.
The stories keep coming and these are just a few, but what an encouragement to see that God is truly on the move and these students are stepping out in faith and boldness and sharing the light of Jesus in such a faith-filled way.
We love to hear your stories of students stepping out in faith. If you have a story to share, email Viki.Seithel@fusionmovement.org to submit yours!
