"Today, 6 months on, I’m a new person..."

We love hearing stories of students finding Jesus at university, and Tom's story is no different. When Tom entered his second year at university, he had no idea of the transformation he was about to experience through trying church. Here's Tom's story.

"After several years of really struggling with mental health, I was at a point where my recovery had stalled. While I was doing well, something was missing and I was really struggling with my 2nd year University work. Looking at me you’d think I had everything, but in reality life was just quite empty and dull!

"It’s so profound to me that such a small coincidence has led me to an entirely new lease on life."

I’d been to church briefly years ago, and really enjoyed the community and family aspect of it – but had never even given a thought to it beyond that. At University I felt oddly led to church, almost as though I was looking for an excuse to go. I’d been following Highfield Students on Instagram for a couple of months because of some of their outreach, but it was when I bumped into a mate who said I should go, and that she’d be there, that my life was completely changed. It’s so profound to me that such a small coincidence has led me to an entirely new lease on life.

"By putting my trust in God I no longer have to be perfect..."

Today, 6 months on, I’m a new person – people were noticing a positive difference in me straight away. Since then, I’ve had my best university exam results, I’ve worked harder than ever to achieve sporting and personal goals and an ankle injury was an opportunity in faith rather than a setback in life. I look at challenges in life with a completely different perspective – by putting my trust in God I no longer have to be perfect, and that’s meant that working towards things is rewarding instead of what would have been debilitating just a couple of years ago."
