Week 28 - Curiosity

So often we expect others to be curious about our faith, we encourage people to ask questions, to look into what is going on in the Bible and in the church, but how often are we curious as to what God might be doing in others - about what he may be calling us to open our eyes to?

Judah studies in Aberdeen and has recently been using the Fusion survey to speak to students on campus. For him, having eyes wide open was noticing when he and another student kept crossing paths...

"I recognised a guy from one of my classes last semester but didn’t know him. I then saw him in the gym and acknowledged him. Then, three days later, I was doing the survey and saw him again. Three times. I was nervous but felt convicted to approach him. We had a really long chat through all the questions in the survey and he was really open to share. His girlfriend was there too and she did the survey with my friend. He was so open to chatting and sharing so I got his Instagram." So often we assume others won't have much to say about spirituality, or be that interested, but having had no reason (other than the nudge of the Holy Spirit) to think this guy would be particularly interested, he and Judah ended up having such a great conversation. "A couple of weeks later, I saw him again and he shared he had been suffering with a banging headache which his lecturer was giving him grief for. However, since speaking to me, there was a total change and his headache was completely fine. He felt there was a link between the two. I can’t explain it apart from believing that Jesus worked through me to heal his headache, and he felt a lot of comfort because of that."

God has put curiosity in the hearts of students on campuses across the UK and beyond. Are we curious to discover it? Are our eyes wide open to those he may be encouraging us to talk with, to listen to, and to share the presence of God with? What impact might our curiosity have on others' lives and the deepening of our own faith?

Every week of the academic year, we are sharing a story of student mission. If you have a story to share, let us know.
