God Can Use Anything…Even Simpsons Socks
At Manchester Freshers’ Fair this year, something incredible happened.
A student was walking through the stalls when he spotted the Simpsons Society. By complete coincidence, he happened to be wearing his Simpsons socks that day. As he walked past, someone from the stall called out:
“Hey! Have you heard the good news?”
Naturally, he assumed this was a Christian student doing outreach, so he smiled, dapped him up and replied, “Of Jesus Christ, of course!”
The stall-holder laughed and said, “No - I meant The Simpsons!”
They both laughed, chatted for a bit, and the society asked if they could snap a photo of his socks for their Instagram page. A pretty harmless, funny moment - and that was that.
But a few days later, someone from the Christian Union got in touch with the student with a wild update.
“Hey, this might sound strange, but that guy who took the photo of the socks messaged me - he said after that encounter, he felt compelled to go to church. He actually turned up on Sunday and gave his life to Christ!”
Since then, that same student has been regularly attending church and reading the Bible.
All from a single, light-hearted encounter. All from a pair of Simpsons socks.
It’s a beautiful reminder that God can and will use anything - even something as ordinary (and funny!) as socks, to reach people’s hearts.
We never know what small, everyday moments God might breathe on. Whether it’s a conversation, a laugh, or a random photo at Freshers’ Fair, He’s already at work in ways we can’t see.
So as students across the UK keep showing up, stepping out, and being themselves on campus - let’s keep believing that God uses everything.
