What are you doing?

It's the summer, things are winding down and young people are off on summer adventures.

September feels a long way off but by the time you kick back into gear after the holidays, you'll have less than a month left.

Only 1 month to go and they'll all be gone. One month and those young people you've invested in for 7 years will be off starting their new lives. One month and they'll be making new friends, making life choices on their own two feet and taking steps towards an unprecedented independence and the life they choose for themselves. What are you doing now to make sure that's the best transition for them ever?

It's your last responsibility as a Youthworker - sending them off well - and it's essential. Here are some things that others are doing to inspire you:

'We used Studentscape to set up a mentoring scheme with current students and school leavers - they're going through it together in the run-up to leaving' - St Michael le Belfry, York

It's not too late.

'We're taking our young people away for a weekend at the start of next term to run through Preparation for Uni material which will help them be ready for the next step. We've invited a guest speaker to share.'
- Christchurch, Bedford

It's not too late.

'A couple in our church have a canal boat so we're thinking of taking our 3 school leavers out for the afternoon and doing prep as we go!' - Hove

It's not too late. What could you plan now for September that will see your young people heading off confident, prepared and ready to hit the ground running, making the most of life at Uni?
