Before the end of January, can you put a date in your diary to prepare your school leavers for uni? They’re going in eight months time, school will be done in only four! It will whizz by and before you know it your chance to prepare them will be gone.
Can I recommend three vital things:
- Diary in one day after exams (week days are doable post-exams!) to run a prep for uni day. You can do this short 4 session course in one day - it takes hardly any prep as the talks are pre-recorded.
- Pair your school leavers up with a mentor. That way you know if nothing else they have someone to talk to about the transition.
- Get them to studentlinkup.org to connect to a church when they leave home. If you can't take a laptop to youth group then email me and I'll send you some cards for them to fill out!
Simple. I know there's a lot to fit in before the summer but please don’t miss this opportunity with your school leavers.
I will literally beg you to make this happen. They only leave home once and for so many this will be the point at which they stumble, struggle, and leave it all behind.
