You’re about to start University! A whole whirlwind of opportunities are coming your way. Clubs, sports, societies, studying, church, etc.
Where do you put your time? The choices you make at University will shape you, lay foundations for your calling, character and lifestyle for the rest of your life.
Societies and Clubs
These days there is a society and club for pretty much everything; Hockey, Quidditch and the Robot Football Society (Yes this is actually a society at the University of Plymouth). Societies and clubs are a massive part of University life but, unfortunately, you can’t join them all. What do you want to invest in?
Societies and clubs are a great place to chill out, learn new things, make friends and keep fit. But they are also your Mission Field! You will make friends with people who don’t know Jesus, that don’t know His love for them. How can you be Jesus in your societies and clubs? How can you witness to them?
We all share Jesus in different ways and styles. Discover your Mission Style at missionstyles.org to find out how you most naturally share your faith.
The jump to University is huge in terms of studying and with the increasing tuition fees, more and more students are prioritising time to study. But how can you study well and in a way that honours and worships God.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24, MSG
A lot of students talk about blagging their way through work and getting great grades still, I must admit that I have done it once or twice. However, it’s not honouring God’s call for us to be great workers. Work with your heart and declare it as worship. Working 9-5 is great in keeping on top of your work and social life, while breaks can be used to bless your friends, your church and yourself through resting.
Getting stuck into the church family is such an important part of adjusting well to university life. The church family provides a community in which you can grow, be discipled and be strengthened in your faith. In the midst of the busyness of student life, church can often be a great way of making sure that you are refueling spiritually and staying in-tune with God.
We love the church and the church loves you. You can get stuck in by joining a small group, serving the church in youth, setup, worship etc. University is a great time to invest in the church and also to receive from the church.
Have you checked out churches around your University? Take a look at the Student Linkup app and shortlist some churches you would like to try out.
