University: The Legacy

“Woaahhh - hold on there - I haven’t even started University, why do I need to start thinking about my Legacy?”

Great question! It's never too early to think about the person you want to be, the things you want to change and the lasting impact you want to have. Usually, when we’re asked to think of people who have left a legacy, we think of famous figures in history, like Martin Luther King, or Mother Teresa. But every single one of us can leave a legacy!

What legacy do you want to leave?

LOVEYOURUNI

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10, NIV

As a Christian at University, what does it look like to leave a Kingdom Legacy? A legacy influenced by what Jesus did! What does it look like to loveyouruni? Love can be shown through words, works, wonders, welcome and witness.

1. Loving words

There is so much power in your words, use them to build, strengthen and comfort people.

2. Loving works

Jesus washed his disciples feet. It would be a little weird to wash your housemates feet, but doing their washing up shares the same kindness and love.

3. Loving wonders

The same power that lives in Jesus also lives in us! Be bold and pray for people. Give God the opportunity to reveal himself.

4. Loving welcome

Jesus welcomed all people, no matter what their social status, character or background was.

5. Loving witness

The above points, when actioned in our lives, display the goodness of God. Living your life this way provokes curiosity in others around you - allowing you to share what living for Jesus means.

Anna's Legacy

Night club toilets are not places filled with hope and joy. Tears, arguments, mascara-streaked faces and vomiting are all too common occurrences here. Anna decided to serve and support distressed students on her night out. Anna brought God’s love to her Students Union. With the team that formed, they began to take care of legless students, chatting, providing tissues, holding back their hair, walking them home, and where appropriate - praying.

The Students Union partnered with Anna’s Church to form Club Mission, where the team takes care of the pastoral needs of students on their Friday night out. Club mission is now being replicated in Universities all over the country as a result of this girl’s love and her acts of kindness to her fellow students.
