Last week, a student in Lincoln was walking home from University when he decided to approach the man walking in front of him and strike up a conversation. Nathan, a keen student evangelist, began chatting with this student as they walked in the same direction together. Before long, despite the student having no faith background or connection to Church, both were chatting about all things God and faith.
By the end of the day, the same student—who just hours earlier had no prior connection to church—had not only attended a CU welcome event but also joined a local church’s fire-pit social for freshers. As the evening came to a close, and just before heading home, he turned and proclaimed, “I’ve had the best evening ever!”
He has now been invited to Church and to Student Alpha on Campus.

Just as Nathan experienced, students in Lincoln have seen how curious their friends are. As a result, a group of students are working together to take Alpha to students on campus and harness the power of invitation.
Together with a team of passionate volunteers, students across Lincoln are running Alpha right in the heart of the University at The Swan pub. Just last week at the freshers' fair, they had hundreds of conversations with students about life and faith and invited them to The Alpha course. Now, they're excited to pioneer this new approach on campus and create space for meaningful discussion in a setting that's both familiar and welcoming.
So far, we have found that students are excited about inviting their friends to Alpha on campus; there’s something about it being on their turf that makes them take the initiative in inviting their friends. In the week since advertising the course, 20 students have already signed up to come along and explore more about the Christian faith. We are praying for over 50 and believe that God can do immeasurably more than that.
Students are curious about faith and spirituality and are saying yes to the invitation to know more!
Could you run a student Alpha course on campus?
What would it look like to take Alpha to a generation that is spiritually open but spiritually lost?
