We’re very excited about the new iPhone & Android mobile apps which are already clearly linking student to church in a much more effective way. Students don’t have to have an iPhone or Android to use Student Linkup, they can also linkup via the website. Student workers don’t need the app to communicate with students – this is all done via your dashboard.
I just wanted to clarify what actions both churches and students can make:
Actions a Church can make:
- View & edit your Church Profile: You can view & update your church profile by visiting www.fusion.uk.com/dashboard & selecting ‘View’ or ‘Edit’ to the right of your church name. Bear in mind that a majority of students will view this on their smart phones, so shorter entries will be easier to view. You can preview this yourself by downloading the app.
- View your Student Linkup list: You can view a list of students coming to study near you by going to your dashboard and clicking ‘View’ to the right of ‘Student Linkup’. You can view their name, time they linked up and where they’re going to be studying. If a student has committed to your church it will say ‘(Committed)’ next to the students name.
- Send a message to individual students: To send a message to an individual student please click ‘[Send Message]’ to the right of the students name. You can send as many individual messages to students as you like. I encourage you to message students as soon as possible after they've linked up! I expect that churches that get the most out of Student Linkup will be those that respond to new linkup’s within an hour or two of receiving that crucial email notification (Sometimes email notifications can get caught in your spam filter so please do check this and click ‘Report not spam’).
- Send a broadcast message to all seeking or committed students: Above your Student Linkup list you’ll see a message box which you can use to send a message to ALL seeking students in your range (a maximum of one per week). Alternatively you could send a message to ALL of your committed students (no limit).
Actions a student can make:
- Linkup to a university or location: This action sends a notification to all churches in range of the students’ Linkup location. This is an invitation for churches to message & welcome the student via their dashboard. The student is added to the church’s Student Linkup list. Until a student commits to a church we consider them to be a seeking student.
- Shortlist a church: This action enables a student to shortlist a few churches that they’d like to try. Upon shortlisting a church, a notification email will be sent to the individual church. This is a greater invitation for the church to get in touch with them – they’re actively interested joining your church family!
- Commit to a church: Once a student shortlists a church, they can then commit to one of the churches on their shortlist. This action is simply to encourage students to get firmly rooted in a church ASAP. First term is a whirlwind – it’s crucial that students commit to a church quickly. This action also removes the student from other church’s Student Linkup lists – as they’re now committed and no longer seeking a church. This gives the church clarification that they've decided they want to make your church, their church!
- Uncommit from a church: We had to make this function available to students , hopefully it won’t be used all that often – but if a student does for whatever reason decide to uncommit from your church, you’ll receive an email notification informing you of this. Perhaps send them a final message graciously encouraging them to commit to a church- any church, and pray for them.
- Mute a message thread: Students can also mute message threads from a church! If they’re overloaded with communication they've got the option of muting message conversations from specific churches.
Messages Character Limit
There is a limit of 500 characters per message for the reason that a majority of students will be viewing messages on their Android or iPhone. Short & sweet to the point messages will more likely to be read than longer elaborate messages.
Student Linkup Church Admins
A church can have multiple Church Admins which enables more than one person to view Student Linkup, send & respond to messages and edit your church profile. If you would like to add additional Church Admins please contact us.
Edit Email Notifications
If you receive too many email notifications, you can simply edit your notification preferences by logging into your dashboard. Please do ensure however that there is someone who is receiving notifications and actively responding to students wanting to find a church!
Moving on from Student work?
Please ensure that you reassign your Church Admin role to another person in your church. This could be a new Student Worker, a church leader or youth worker. To do this, please ask that person to setup a user account on the website, and then email us requesting that the old Church Admin role be removed and replaced by the new Church Admin.
