November rolls round, fireworks spark off everywhere, bonfires gather and warm us and Christmas lights start to appear. Celebration is in the air.
But what are we celebrating? What do we actually have to celebrate?
As you remember, remember this 5th November, and throughout this season of wintery celebrations: what are you celebrating?
We are invited by our extravagant God, and even instructed by Him through Paul to rejoice and celebrate always. 'Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!'
Or as the message version puts it 'Celebrate God all day, every day.' [Phillipians 4:4]
Not that we should always be stuffing our faces with Christmas pud and sending fireworks off all over the place. And not that it’s always easy - God knows that on a down-day, in difficult times or when it’s just cold and grey celebrating is the last thing we feel like doing.
But there is always a reason to celebrate. Celebrate the gift of life you have been given, celebrate what God is doing around you, celebrate other peoples’ victories, celebrate kindness, celebrate what you have learnt today, celebrate the things you are able to do now that you never could have imagined a year ago, celebrate each moment you get to see goodness break through…
Take one minute now. Or at the end of each day. What can you celebrate today? What is God doing around you that you can celebrate?
