Notice the drips

The other day I went for a paddle in my kayak, come rain or shine its one of my favourite things to do.

As I was strapping it to the top of my car ready to head down to the river, it was raining. It was that annoying sort of light rain that doesn’t look bad but is pretty proficient at getting you thoroughly drenched. As I fiddled with the straps and ropes I was hunched up in my coat as the rain was pretty noticeable- as you might expect!

However after being out on the water for an hour or two I noticed that I no longer noticed the rain. It was still drizzling, but after a while I’d stopped noticing it and just accepted it as part of my surroundings. This got me thinking; what else have we stopped noticing and just accept as part of life? What things do we just accept as the unchangeable norm? The actions of our friends? The language we use? (Read some great thoughts from Luke Smith on this)

Jesus was all about mixing it up and challenging the status quo. He didn’t come to judge people (Matt:7v1)  but he did come to help them notice what they were missing (Matthew 9:35).

God can use us to drip in to our culture little bits of who He is. It may not be noticeable to us, we’re probably used to it. But to people around us, it’s like being caught out in the rain without a brolly.

So have a think about where you can help people notice what they’re missing.
