People are Awesome

Since the dawn of time there’s been something inside of us that loves to push the limits. To go faster, higher and further than anyone else has gone before.

It takes an experienced climber about 3-5days to conquer the formidable north face of the Eiger. However Swiss climber Ueli Steck pushed the limits when he completed it solo in an mind blowing 2 hours 47 minutes.

British adventurer Sir Renaulph Fiennes was the first to travel from pole to pole by man power alone, trekked unsupported across Antarctica, is the oldest Britton to summit Everest, and ran 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days…despite suffering a heart attack and having a double heart bypass months before! It seems we can’t get enough of the unexplored.

Even my own cousin, Dan Martin, is about to set off from New York to be the first person to complete a global triathlon- swimming from New York to France, cycling from France to Alaska and running from Alaska to New York.

This incessant drive is perhaps one of the reasons why the great commission resonates so deeply with this generation. The call to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matt 28: 19) stirs something within us.

We live in a time when the planet is more accessible than ever before, yet there is still so much to be discovered and so many people to be reached.

This summer Fusion are preparing to push the limits even further by connection 2500 students to churches when they head off to university through Student Linkup. Equipping, connecting and sending more missional students than ever before to campuses in all corners of our nation.

But like any adventure it comes at cost, because doing something that has never done before is never cheap or easy. So we’re throwing the challenge out to anyone who wants to join us and help realise this dream by taking on the 90 Challenge.

Inspired by the endurance efforts of these exceptional individuals I’m going to be taking on the Great Glen Challenge.  I’ll be cycling, canoeing and trekking over 90km through the unforgiving Scottish highlands in under 48 hours in order to facilitate as many days of Student Linkup as possible.
