The Spiritual Gift of Punctuality

The other morning I was chatting with my house mate about punctuality and that how actually this is something that most Christians are generally rubbish at, especially Christian students.

It’s something I see every week at church. The service officially starts at 3.30pm, but this is when the first ‘early birds’ just begin to rock up and by about ten to four most people have finally sauntered in. But what’s the problem? We’re covered by grace; nobody gets angry, it just gets shrugged off, we’re given compassion and then carry on our poorly timed way.

That is until we get into the big wide world.

The buzz words of being ‘counter cultural’ are increasingly banded around the Christian community. However, is it still ‘counter cultural’ when everyone else is there for the team meeting on time and you waltz in 15 minutes late? Is that the culture we want to be known for? I somehow doubt it. I would like to suggest that would come under the category of ‘epic fail’, its lazy and if nothing else is just plain rude!

We want to lead the way and set the trend, so why not try being 10mins early to everything all day? You never know, you might get to share your reason for being early with the people you never get to talk to!

God’s timing is impeccable (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) so if we really want to emulate Him, we should pick up our game before we’re too late. (Pun fully intended)
